Feb. 5th

Everyone is enjoying the sunny weather. Temperatures in the house have been ranging between 67 and 86. Even Mom and Gerda have needed blankets at night.

Cory is smiling as his to-do list is getting smaller. Or maybe it is that he is going to have quiet time in the truck tomorrow on the 6+ hour drive.

Yesterday morning I helped Eli with school and Sadie helped Anna. Gerda taught the cooks to make small meat pies. Cory worked with Ron. Our battery/inverter system has been in a small shed behind the house. To make it more secure it was moved into the hallway yesterday-and Cory hopes to have the set-up improved by adding a switch. The switch would allow Cory to charge the batteries with the small generator without rewiring the inverter every time.

Cory is still planning to leave tomorrow about 4 a.m. He should be on LaGonave by noon. Thursday he will return to the mainland and go to the capital city of Port-au-Prince. The truck needs to be inspected, supplies bought, and driver's licence paperwork started.

Dad and Gene worked on a door for the pharmacy stock room and a battery platform. Mom stained the large storage cabnet. Eli painted the door in the afternoon with terminte repellent. Mom, the kids and I worked sorting medical stuff in the afternoon-emptying two more boxes. Gerda and Sadie worked on the curtains.

The cooks made Haitian soup for supper-which included cooking bananas and yams. Cory explaned about yams to the team. The small tuber he is holding grows on a vine. If you then plant it and wait a couple years you get a bigger tuber that can be eaten like a potato.

Wahoo, Haiti-bound! Last night Suzanne, Pete & I had a LONG board meeting with Al Gearig & Marc Blass. We're excited about getting down to Haiti.

I posted a link from the church website (www.Focuson5.com) to the blog and we're planning on sharing some photos with the congregation on Sunday.

Pray for Evelyn. She had a febrile seizure last week from a battle with Roseola. Last night she started throwing up and it's continuing into this morning. Laura is hoping she'll be healthy next week as they will be flying to Idaho on Tuesday.

The weather turned soggy yesterday and today. It's supposed to start snowing again Wednesday & Thursday (I think).

Dave & Bette are flying back in today after their flight was delayed a day. Dave had another bout with kidney stones during the trip and wound up spending time in the Tahitian hospital.

Today is "Super Tuesday." It is figured that the Democratic nominee may be decided today.

I've got that big projector to put in my main luggage. Anything else to sneak in? Should I bring some movies? How about a bag of White Castle sliders?
