Here is a letter sent out earlier today from our friends Dr. Bob & Marcia Vermaire, who serve at the LaGonave Wesleyan Hospital.
Hello friends/partners,
Here is what we are hearing from our friends in Haiti regarding the earthquake. So many of you have asked how you can help, so this is our response. Thank you for asking!
There have now been more than 1400 deaths recorded from the earthquake in southern Haiti and more than 6000 injured. Tropical storm Grace has caused heavy rains in areas where tens of thousands have been left homeless and with little sanitation. We fear more disease to follow.
Haitians are responding. By the time we had contacted them, Dr. Junior and Dr. Badio, both doctors from La Gonave, had already formed volunteer Haitian medical teams from Port-au-Prince and from the Wesleyan Hospital which will leave for the southern part of Haiti (hardest hit by the earthquake) as soon as today.
Since there are several factors making it difficult for North Americans to travel to Haiti at this time to assist in Earthquake relief and there are so many with caring hearts that want to respond, we offer the following suggestions as to how to help.
*Pray for God to intervene to show his love and mercy, and for compassionate hearts to be touched internationally and for something good to rise from this tragedy for the Haitian people.
*Pray that the gangs (especially in Martissant--see map below) will let people and supplies be sent to the southern peninsula.
*Give generously to assist these teams of Haitian medical personnel and for the existing medical work.
Your donations will be used for:
*Paying doctors, nurses and other support personnel who are being sent from La Gonave and Port-au-Prince.
*Covering the costs of transportation, lodging, food, etc. for these workers.
*Employing other medical workers at the Wesleyan hospital to fill the gaps left by the people going to help with the relief effort.
*Purchasing medicines and other supplies that will be needed in providing care.
*If there are leftover funds they will be used in purchasing medicines and supplies that are in critically short supply at the Wesleyan hospital.
To Give:
*Online: La Gonave and Fauche Hospital Medical Fund - Haiti - Global Partners (globalpartnersonline.org)
*Or send a check to: Global Partners, 13300 Olio Road, Suite 400, Fishers, IN 46037 (on the memo line put #WM06-0929 / Earthquake Relief)
Thank you so much for caring!

- There were only two Wesleyan Churches affected by the earthquake. One was completely destroyed and the other was severely damaged. Thankfully, there have been no reported deaths associated with either church.
- None of our missionaries were in Haiti when the quake happened, and we have received reports from our three main Wesleyan Mission locations of ministry that we sustained no significant damage from the earthquake.
