Exciting May Day 2008-Agricultural Day

Well, plans can change fast. Cory had intended to drive down the river and present Moringa to a school there but....

Then the activity of the UN helicopter flying over the house in the morning was explained. President Preval had chosen Port Margot to visit for Agricultural day-just the day before! But he really didn't go to Port Margot as the meeting was held at the Fauche Wesleyan Church, right here on campus!

I went and saw a few patients. Went back to the house and straighted up after we were asked if the bathroom could be available in case the President needed it. I don't think one would say NO to governmental officials in that case.

The church and yard were decorated in Haitian flags and banners, as well as gold and green-President Preval's party colors.

The President was flown in by UN helicopter that landed down by the river. The church likely had 450 plus people. There was a bit of problem with the electric-but they got it fixed before the President's talk. For those who don't know-President Preval was a agriculturist before getting into politics. Many groups talked, including the minister of Agriculture and Secretary of State.

We were the only pale skinned people at the talk. The other obvious foreigners were with the UN. We also had many Haitian police officers. Following the three hour meeting we exited a side door and I got into location to try to take a photo of the President exiting the back door the way he came in. Suddenly I hear Cory giving greetings and turning was surprised to see Cory shaking President Preval's hand and then the Present greeted me and shook my hand.

President Preval was rapidly whisked away to the river and soon the helicopter flew over the house. I down loaded our photos, hung up the laundry that had waited all day. Cory returned with the kids and as we showed them the pictures we felt 2 earthquakes. Not long or real strong but the strongest we have ever felt. We could hear the satellite dish rocking on the roof above us.
