March 13

A bit chilly this morning at 66 degrees but sunny. We are all excited as today is the last day of school before spring break. Kids have spelling tests and Eli needs to recite a prayer in French. Unfortunately, Mom and Dad can not help much with the pronunciation.

Because of Daylight-Saving time in Michigan I 'chatted' an hour earlier that normal with my folks yesterday. We chat twice a week. So I was ready for clinic when a call came up the hill at 8:30 that there was an motorcycle accident victim that needed to be seen and the other doctors were not available. Accidents can be nothing or deadly so I always spend the time getting to the hospital in prayer. This young man was fortunate-he only had a couple short cuts on his face needing stitches and no major injuries. I then saw a couple clinic patients and sorted supplies in the depot.

We currently have two patients in the hospital. The first is a young man with HIV. He has a wife and young child, under 2 years of age. I took the time to explain what we can do, that his wife needs to be tested, and we prayed. The second patient is a 22 year old lady who had hemorrhaged due to a medical problem and currently only has 30% of her normal blood amount. She had a prescription for iron but it hadn't been filled yet. She will only be able to have a blood transfusion if her family goes to Cap Haitian, gets a unit of blood from the Red Cross, and return with it. She was alone at the time of my visit. I explained the plan to the nurse and prayed that the family returned soon.

We are hosting a video night for the clinic staff tonight: planet earth videos, popcorn and juice at the house. The start of spring break should be different than a normal night we thought.

We appreciate the people who take the time to comment or E-mail us about the blog. Let us know if there are questions or topics that you would like to see covered. Will try next week while the kids are home to get some more photos.

Erin-it was great to hear from you. I moved your note to our E-mail as I didn't know if you wanted others to read your personal information. I don't have a current E-mail for you. So please E-mail us so we can stay in contact.

Wahoo! Spring Break!

Things around the church are extremely busy. I'm working diligently to pull of a nice, but simple Easter service. Schedules were just a mess from the weather and trips to pull off something extravagant.

We're looking forward to strengthening the ties - and I'm trying to get Barry Lucas from the Congregational Church to consider coming down to Haiti too!
