Jan. 25, 2008

Yesterday we were able to get the second coat of paint on the bathroom. Instead of fighting with the screen we managed to get it off the window so I could paint from both sides. Much easier.

Large dinning room table was moved into our front room today-now we can seat everyone.

The work on the guest house continues-the old plastic, and ceiling tiles have all been removed. The walls are continued to be scraped, sandpapered and washed. One of the layers of paint had turned to powder.

We know that the folks have a couple of bags packed. When we first moved to Haiti the baggage allowance per person was two-70 pound bags and a 40 pound carry-on. A few years ago American lowered the two bags to 50 pounds a piece. Now the team is flying directly into Cap Haitian on a different airline and smaller plane. Their total checked luggage weight is only 70 and a carry-on can only weigh about 10 pounds. The actually weight is decided after people buy their tickets and turn in their personal weights. Once the amount the people going on the flight is known they can figure out how much your carry-on can weigh.

The kids had a good school week. They are now half way done with the school year. Report cards will come out next week. Eli ended up having three different teachers during this grading period. Starting Monday the teacher who started the year with the class will be returning.
We are grateful for our kids.

Our battery system stopped working this morning. Last week the electrician re-wired things so that the water pump can be plugged into government power and Cory wouldn't have to hook up the small generator to fill the water reservoir. That was the good part. But yesterday we discovered that our house was disconnected from the government power so our battery system hasn't been charging. Thankfully the electrician was able to fix the problem today and we again have power.
