Sunday 27 Jan. 2008

Two days and counting. Saturday saw us continuing to clean, straighten, work on the path, the yard. The electric problem was fixed so our battery back-up system can charge when the government power runs (about 2 hours per day). Cory discovered when he went to fill up the water reservoir that the yard work had resulted in a cut PVC pipe (again). This was also repaired on Saturday by the culprit, without the expense of purchased fittings. Just heat the end until it is flexible/stretchable to make a connection and then glue them together.

Anna is now moved into the office/family room. Her bedroom is now ready for guests. Eli will be joining her when Cory and I move into his room-allowing our Mom and Dad to have our room. The third couple will be staying with Pastor Immanuel just down the hill.

Sunday we went to church here at Fauche and then headed to a missionary potluck. The missionaries who work with our mail and cargo were having a team of 11 visit from their home church. The church hosted the potluck. Following the meal and fellowship we attended English church-with two large teams I think there may of been more visitors than missionaries.

We were warned not to talk long after church as we are into carnival time and may meet some RaRa bands on the road. RaRa bands are loud, noisy groups of people, some in costumes dancing in the streets. These groups can turn violent as many tend to drink while they party. We followed another missionary family until they turned off at the University. We passed slowly though one band without problem. At home we are far enough away from a city that we haven't heard any parties. We didn't even hear drums this weekend.

Picture is Cory with a large clump of air plant with a strangler fig tree growing in it that was up in a tree. It either outgrew its supporting limb or the yard man may have pulled it out of a citrus tree. It weighed about 30 pounds. Cory was amazed to find several species of orchids in trees on the compound after only looking for them for a few minutes.
