Well today we were at a nice 80 degrees at 8 a.m. when I chatted on-line with my folks. They were snowy and cold with many area schools closed for the second day in a row. They are anxious to come see us and leave the cold behind. We have had 13 days without rain but there was a light rain tonight so that will help the dusty roads. Its been quite a contrast from the first 10 days of January that had almost no sun and over 12 inches of rain (the rain gauge overflowed once)
Preparing for the team is giving Cory white hair.
The big project for today was painting our guest bathroom. The last paint job was a tan color-water paint on top of oil. So today after cleaning and scraping we repainted it with white oil paint. [the source of Cory's white hair] Most of the room looks good after the first coat. The hard part was trying to paint the window security bars-they look good from the inside but as they were dark maroon before it is very obvious from outside where we missed.
Tomorrow we plan the second coat and to remove the screen off the window so that we can paint the bars from both sides. The old tile we can not do much about but the rest looks good.
We also continued with the fight against mildew. We did a few more loads of musty smelling linens and clothes from storage. The ladies who are helping us cleaned two of the large book shelves-removing each book and dusting them and the shelving. Certain medical books are especially prone to mildew.
The work in the guest house building also continued. The cartoon drawings on the walls are pealing off easily but under the paint is a layer of powder. So the walls are being sanded and will need to be washed down before painting. While most of the ceiling is down there remains a couple of rooms to do.
The kids enjoyed gymnastics at school today-working on handstands. I hear that both landed hard. Eli is working hard on a Chinese and Southeast Asia history chapter and spelling for Friday's tests. Anna is also studying for a spelling test on Friday.
Photo is of the north coast on the drive back from Borgne. Coffee and cacao grow well in this hilly area
