In the afternoon we walked with our umbrellas down to the clinic chapel for the installation of the new hospital/clinic committee and Pastor Rigo, the new administrator. The rain was harder and at times totally drowned out the speakers. It also dripped through some holes, onto the floor.
This morning was cold-62 degrees outside. This is the coldest we have recorded since we have been in Haiti. It feels a bit like Michigan Christmas when you have the Christmas carols playing and the tree lit. We warmed up nicely when the sun came up over the mountain. The new administrator was at work-so I passed on the list of projects that Dr. Frito had given me in November. This list is the 'urgent' list. Number one is the roof on the building that houses the pharmacy, the pharmacy store room, the emergency room and delivery. The need for roof repair was underlined by the soggy medications that were soaked on the store room shelves during the weekend rains. Thankfully most were in plastic packages or glass bottles and therefore no permanent damage.
The wet floors do make the mopping easier. Ironically the water running down the walls and dripping onto the floor is the only 'running' water that we enjoy at the clinic and hospital. Hand washing is the bucket/cup method. Water is carried in from hand pumps in the yards between the clinic and the school.
