Dec. 10th

Well, we dropped to 60 degrees outside last week. Because the house is so open the inside temperature is only a few degrees warmer than outside the house. Cory went to market to see if he could find a blanket and returned with a blanket for our bed, a couple long sleeve shirts for Eli and a school shirt for Anna.

Cory always sticks out at market. Many of the items still had tags from second hand stores in the States on them. Cory was tempted to bargain with a merchant over one shirt just because it had a 25 cent garage sale sticker on it but figured she probably wouldn't understand. Most shirts could be purchased for about US$2. He was even able to find Anna a pair of white pants-she is a sheep in this week's school program.

While the weather may be cooler at night the days warm up nicely to the lower 80's and we are not having as much rain. The plants are growing. The government has started repairing some of the large holes between here and school, so the ride is improving.

The photo is from Christmas in Michigan last year. This year the LaGonave Wesleyan Hospital Christmas party will be on Christmas day. There is a program: singing, devotional, skits, gifts and a large meal. Every year we have been in Haiti we have helped to serve the 70 + staff: rice & beans, chicken or goat, fried bananas, beet salad and cupcakes.

We are looking forward to the party.

While there are Christmas carols on the radio and a few Christmas decorations at the various missionaries homes I have seen nothing in the towns or Haitian homes to remind one of Christmas. Very different from Stateside. We will see some decorations later this week in Port-au-Prince.

We are not sure how well the Internet will be working on LaGonave. Will try to continue to blog a couple times a week but don't know if we will be able to or not. Will be back to Fauche the end of December-and should have lots to talk about then.
