Plaisance visit-continued

After church we went on a short walk to give the ladies time to finish making lunch. First we toured the Wesleyan school. Over 700 students attend grade school and secondary school.

Following the school tour we headed back to the town itself. On the way we met a couple Haitian police and UN soldiers. We learned that Egypt is represented by the UN forces. The pastor explained we were going to visit the jail and we were on our way. The police station had a couple officers seated outside and a couple inside working on computers. They showed us a cell-which only contained a cement ledge to sit on. They had a quiet weekend with no prisoners. Generally they have about four prisoners-mostly for fighting.

Next stop was the government run clinic. We didn't learn much about the clinic because as soon as the Sister in charge heard that Kris was a doctor-she asked for help. Kris went to see a lady in labor with her fifth child. Things were not going well and Kris was unable to hear the baby's heart rate. Kris prayed with the lady and observed for a few minutes. Despite the mother's hard work at pushing the baby was not budging. Kris was dismayed to learn that the closest hospital for a Cesarean section was Cap Haitian. This poor lady was loaded into the back of a pick up truck for a rough three hour ride. The truck had already been called before Kris saw the patient.
We pray that the lady survived. Kris didn't feel like she did much but the staff was grateful to have had a doctor see the patient. This is the waiting room at the clinic.

We walked back to the house by way of the market place. We had a great lunch of rice and beans [required], macaroni, fried chicken, fried cooking bananas, beets, and lettuce/onions. Beverages were water and orange juice. While we drink with our meal, Haitians wait until after their meals.

The older girls sang most of the way back to Fauche. The younger 3 up front with our family soon fell asleep, as did Anna. Eli counted over 5 waterfalls and enjoyed the view. We left home about 7:30 a.m. and returned shortly before 4 p.m. A long day with a few surprises-but a good day.
