Today we visited the Plaisance church. It took about 1 hour 20 minutes to go about 18 miles. The scenery is wonderful both by the river and twisting up the mountains.
We arrived once again near the end of Sunday school. This week we had 9 young gals from Fauche with us. Four of them are John Pierre's daughters, some nieces and the rest friends.
The singing was enthusiastic, accompanied with drums and a keyboard with a polka flavor. The sermon was on worship and several reasons to worship the Lord: because He tells us, He desires worship, to know Him better, to show our love, our gratitude, to be a good witness to others, and to strengthen our faith.
Kris was shocked to hear her name called for the final prayer! At first she didn't think that it was her but reality quickly set in as when she didn't respond to "Sister Cory" they tried Mrs. Cory and pointed at her! Her Creole is strongest with medical issues and weak with church vocabulary. It is one thing to translate into English for our children parts of the sermon and quite another to stand in front of church and pray in Creole with no preparation. She stumbled through it and it was a relatively short prayer. {Think will need to write one down in case this should ever happen again!}
Following church we shared in Communion. The Haitian Wesleyan Church has closed Communion-only members in good standing are able to partake. Most Churches have a required meeting a couple days before Communion for those wanting to participate. Members participating had a white card that was punched with a paper punch when they took Communion. Communion takes place the first Sunday of the month. While we are not members of that church we were invited to join them as was John Pierre.
