Water

We learned this week that our water well, under the small pump house in the photo, is from the French colonial days. The pump house was added to protect the pump. The well is down a hill from our house-the picture was taken from the yard. A big palm tree over the well has been cut down because of the messy nesting birds that lived in it.

There is PVC pipe that runs up through the garden. Some of the pipes had holes and were repaired. Need to be careful when hoeing the corn.

About once a week Cory plugs in the electric pump which then pumps the water up the hill to this small water reservoir-which sits just above our house. The top one supplies our house and the bottom one is for the clinic, other mission houses and school.Cory has worked to evict the frogs and screen the vents. He adds bleach-so our showers smell like a pool.

For drinking Cory runs the water though a carbon filter to take out the taste of the bleach. We are thankful that we no longer have to buy water. Not only do we save time and money but this water tastes better than what we were buying.
We do have an ultraviolet water treatment system but it hasn't wanted to work since moving to the North. Cory is looking into replacing it before we start getting visitors.

On the mission campus there are two hand pump wells for the campus, school, clinic/hospital and local community. Just this week on the same afternoon they both stopped working. The following morning the missionary who installed the wells stopped in for a short visit. He plans to return with his tools and take a look at them. Great timing!
