Move-Part Two

Shortly after 7 am the next morning Met. John Claude and Nicoderm came having crossed from LaGonave on the early ferry. They met the Irvine family at the public wharf. The Irvine family had driven the new truck from Port-au-Prince and were returning to LaGonave. John Claude drove the truck to meet us at the Wesleyan wharf. We loaded the new Nissan truck. John Claude drove the big truck while we followed. We left about 8 am. Lunch was a few snacks and some pop by a roadside stand. The other guys bought rice and beans but we thought that would be too messy in the new truck. We crossed dusty flood plains, through rice fields, and into the mountains. As we crossed the highest one there was a tremendous thunderstorm with a few bits of hail. Some of the large holes in the road made the truck lean and bounce so much it was scary. Many prayers were offered during the trip. We made 103 miles in about 7 1/2 hours.
The yard was actually a bit brown when we arrived at the compound as the rains hadn't come in July. We were thinking only to unload the smaller truck that afternoon but many hands were available and both trucks were soon empty. The boxes and armfuls of loose items were randomly piled in whatever space was found. A wonderful hot meal of rice, beans, chicken, cooked veggies and juice was soon delivered. Sheets were found for all the beds. We showered by dipping water out of a drum and thankfully went to bed.
The following morning before breakfast-John Claude and Nicoderm started the long trip back to the wharf with the big truck. Now we just needed to get the house in order!
