Nine of us boarded there and 6 additional borded at two stops before the South Africa border.
Short stops on each side of the border made sure everyone's paperwork was in order and allowed us to stretch our legs.
A meal bag provided drinks and snack food. Although Cory ordered each of us a different juice and chips, we all received identical bags: a 0 calorie Coke, BBQ chips, salted peanuts and a small candy bar.

A 5-10 minute stop for petrol and bathroom break after an hour or so in South Africa allowed us to see some white rhinos, a Sable antelope, some water buffalo and an ostrich all in a fenced-in area.
Another few hours and we arrived at the airport, checked in, grabbed a sandwich and then flew Rwandan Air to Lusaka, Zambia. The 737 jet was only about 1/4 or 1/3 full.
In Zambia, Randal was waiting along with Dr. H. Smith. We were transported to a small hotel for the evening and by the time we finished supper it was 10 p.m.
Saturday Randal and Dr. Smith left at 8:30 for meetings while we hung out. Cory left around noon with a driver to buy some food, pay some of our travel and room, and get a SIM card for the phone so we can stay in touch on-line.
Around 3 we were picked up and brought to the office of the Pilgrim Wesleyan Church of Zambia. We toured and visited a bit waiting for the meeting to wrap up.
More photos of the Jembo church, school, hospital, and gardens to be posted soon!!! |
Sadly, because it was late, we only had daylight for the first hour or so of the drive. We stopped and picked up some fried chicken sandwiches for supper at a 'Hungry Lion' fast food chain. Good prices and similar to a mix of KFC and Chick-fil-A.
The last hour of the drive was over dirt roads, reminding us more of our Haiti home but not to the level of the mountain road to Delice.
Tired, we quickly found our beds in the guest house and turned in for the night.
