Mozambique Visit

Maputo Beach and Skyline

We had a good trip to Mozambique. The drive takes most of the day to get to Xai Xai and most of the roads are very good.

The trip took about 8 hours with paperwork at the boarders and stops to stretch our legs.

Being at sea level warmed up the temperatures but a nice sea breeze blew most of the time during our visit.

We visited the Xai Xai Bible College and the gardens the students help work to grow some of the food they eat.

We shared a bit in chapel on Wednesday morning and watched some of the students perform dramas on Friday.

Friday also included visiting a recording studio where the Bible is recorded into several of the languages spoken in Mozambique.

We enjoyed visiting with our Global Partner's teammates Jim and Karen.

The land in the area is sandy and hilly, looking like it was sand dunes in the past.

The climate tends to be dry so getting good yields in the sandy soil is a challenge.

Main crops now (summer) are corn, beans, peanut, and cassava.

Winter includes tomato, pepper, onion, and oakra. Tree crops are mostly citrus, coconut, and mango.

We also made some visits to the beach, which is amazing.

A sandstone barrier breaks large waves at low tide and inside forms a long, fairly calm  pool.

Cory found he can still understand much of the Portuguese he learned during his trips to Brazil, but ability to speak is very limited.

Fritz enjoyed the beach.
