As an avid reader, I appreciate when people share interesting or academic book recommendations.
Occasionally I too recommend a book to someone to read either for educational or entertainment purposes.
Recommendations carry a weight of responsibility as you can change someone's life!
I knew when I recommended to Anna at 15 years of age that she would find The Locust Effect: Why the End of Poverty Requires the End of Violence interesting.
"Gripping and perspective-altering book." --David Brooks, The New York Times
Little did I know that this book would be a pivotal point in her life.
I would say this was the hardest book for me to read in the last ten years [and took me much longer than normal].
I knew it would resonate with Anna's strong pull for justice for all..
Five years later, with six law school applications completed, Monday she will complete a second zoom interview with International Justice Mission, the organization featured in The Locust Effect.
In early grade school Eli struggled to read until we recognized that he enjoyed Calvin and Hobbes comics and bought him a few of the books.
This sparked his interest enough that reading became something he enjoys very much.
Books on my 'bookshelf' /Kindle right now include: spiritual warfare; effects of trauma-how to help heal; self-help, communications, feelings, a bibliography, epic fantasy, medical journals,.....and so on.
Not to mention news articles, blogs, and other forms of learning. As we will be spending at least January in cold, grey, wintery Michigan, curling up with a good book will add interest to our days.
With our major travel done for a while, and weather soon to limit outdoor time I'm looking for book recommendations.
What books changed your perspective?
What book caused you to lose track of time?
