Update: LaGonave Crash Victims

Here's an update on the folks who were involved in the serious crash in February on LaGonave.

Thank you to those who prayed for those involved and the staff involved in the treatment and transportation of the injured.

Please continue to pray for these folks as well as for safety for the missionaries who daily travel on dangerous roads.

Chrissi: I've been back at work since my return from our trip.  Most days I am busy with my students and appreciative of their energy.  I have moments of sadness, exhaustion and panic and the occasional nightmare; however they pass.  My headaches are gone and my body has loosened up and is beginning to tell me exercise.

Ezner: As for me, I am not yet finished healing. I am on one crutch these days. I hope that I will be able to walk without a crutch next week. I went back for a doctor's appointment and I have another one the first week of April for therapy.
Even though I am not totally healed I have already gone back to work. I am trying.

Hannah: I took one week off from school and then came back with help
for a week and a half.  For the past two weeks I have been teaching on
my own.  (T
he kids are going easy on me.)  I have felt stronger and
stronger in my shoulders (collarbones) each week.  I am still a bit
foggy and easily tired from the concussion.

Iku: I am doing well enough that I had my first full week of teaching this past week.
It felt really good to be back!

I feel so incomplete, however, in terms of what I was to do with people of Matenwa. I was just
starting to get the feel of Haiti, of the school I was visiting, etc. Everything is almost like a
fleeting dream; the more I try to see the clear picture of things happened there, the more it seems
distant and blurred.
But, I am so grateful for everything came together after the accident, all the help we got and
the remarkable coincidences that made our recovery starting on the right foot. I thank you all for
being there for us and giving us the best of you!!

Holly. i am back to work. physcal therapy is hard and progress is slow. i have applied to teach kindergarten at my school for next year as elementary spanish has been cut from budget.healing and peace to everyone.

Lauren: I suffered a crushed pelvis and had surgery in Haiti as well as Boston. I am healing well. Next week I start "aquatic therapy" where I will learn to walk again on a treadmill in a pool.  I hope to return to work in the fall. I think about the accident and those that helped along the way, each day.

Laurie: I broke two fingers in her right hand and underwent surgery on Feb 22nd to re-align and pin the bones in place.  The pins were removed on 22 March.  I have been seeing a physical therapist twice a week since 26 Feb to work at regaining full range of movement, coordination and strength, as all fingers have been affected.  I was told it may take another 4 months or so to recover.

Laurie about Jeremie: Jeremie received numerous scrapes and a mild concussion.  She suffered from headaches for the first 2-3 weeks, but these have now ceased.

Tessa: My recovery is going slowly but surely. I am confident that everything is going to be just fine. I am gratefull for the support i have received and continue to receive everyday.   Ciao
