Dec. 15th 10 Days until Christmas.

Cold but roads OK today as we took Eli and Anna downtown Allegan to shop for the last Christmas presents. Happy to check that job off the to-do list.

Enjoyed this week baking Christmas cookies with Grandma TerAvest and helped her make her first ever batch of fudge. The Christmas carols on the radio and TV specials also bring a smile to our faces.

Cory called Fauche yesterday and all is well at home. John Pierre traveled to Cap Haitian yesterday and all remained calm. Friends of ours who traveled to Haiti on one of the first flights into Port-au-Prince also reported calm. Our plans to return home now include a MAF charter flight from Port to Cap instead of the 9 hour drive which would taken a driver a couple days to come and get us as well as travel through a few politically potental hot spots.

Because we arrive in Haiti between the big holidays of Independence Day [January 1] , the 1st anniversary of the earthquake [Jan. 12th] and the runoff elections [Jan. 16th] we decided it would be best to fly North avoiding the road travel as much as possible.

Packing becomes a bit more complicated knowing that we can only put 1,000 pounds on the MAF plane. First we need to know our body weights [motivation to watch the yummy holiday treats and exercise more], our luggage and then if we have any weight left over we can shop for groceries in Port.

Interesting to consider the weights of Christmas presents-hope the rest of the family did too!
