25 April Banana 'bulbs' Bounty + Moringa update

O.K. I'll correct myself right away for you plant folks..banana plants don't have bulbs but corm. Cory knows the difference but I haven't had the whole lesson yet. I called them bulbs because they look like big bulbs and for the alliteration.

Friday Cory and the guys headed down the road early to the boarder with the Dominican Republic. A man he'd met in Port Margot a few weeks ago agreed to purchase a lot [1,800] cheap of banana plants and bring them back for Cory.

Cory and the guys came back with some large bags and a big truck came later with 8 additional bags. I'm told these plants should provide double the yield of those we have here-and to double your yield is GREAT in Haiti.

Disease resistant eating banana, a disease resistant cooking banana and a dwarf cooking banana, all promising high yield. Despite these variates being planted on plantations in the DR they continue to be hard to find for purchase in Haiti.

Saturday at a district youth meeting notes were given to the young people to pass along to their pastors. All but 4 churches, who we will contact another way should be informed shortly. The pastors can contact us letting us know how many corms they would like. They will be in charge picking them up and distributing them to their members.

The plants come with the direction that the owner will tithe both the fruit and any baby plants that the mother produces. This way both the other church members will be blessed as well as other's in the community. We encouraged the youth that when the Lord blesses you it is a wonderful time to share with unbelievers what He has done-and share some bananas.

Should many plants remain after the churches receive their plants Cory plans to plant 200-300 on the campus for use by the district. If still more remain they will be offered for sale in our area at the cost of $3 Haitian a piece.

And check out how the May Day Moringa trees growing.

That is a ton of future banana trees, awesome! And I can't believe how much the moringa cup garden has grown. I hope testing goes well when it finally arrives. We just found out Chris's application for the scholarship never got there...your rec. did, but not his part. Mail just isn't quite the same coming and going from Haiti! (He can still resend it, thankfully)
