The team should be in Florida and heading our way about noon. We will head out for the airport about the same time. A few things to deal with this morning like putting up mosquito nets, last minute straightening and shopping.
Most people coming on a team want to experience new things. You don't travel hundreds of miles and pay for a plane ticket to visit some place exactly like home. What would be the point? We are not like Indiana and plenty of opportunities exist for new experiences.
One that the team will have a chance to try is eating bread nuts. We have a tree right behind the house and most people will have never heard of these tasty treats. Living on LaGonave Cory saw them for sale now and then at the market but wasn't temped to try any [unusual for him]
During harvest season you need to check around the tree a couple times a day or listen for the thud of the fruit as it splats the ground. The 'fruit' is bumpy, soft and squishy.
Next you need to put your fingers in the slimy inside and find the seeds which are enclosed in a soft sack called a 'rag'. Peal them out and put them in a pot.
Add salt and water and boil for an hour. The seeds still have a thin shell that you need to peel off. Not a fast snack but one to slowly enjoy while sitting around chatting with friends. The taste is a bit like a firm nutty potato.
