Cory's trip to the DR

Cory returned home last night at dusk. He was tired from the trip but overall it was a good trip. Not one that he wants to do on a regular bases.

About 20 trees purchased: including sapote, 3 avocado varieties, vanilla orchid, white sapote, lemon, malay apple, cashew and a medicinal tree. They visited one of the top Caribbean agricultural universities where we have a young Haitian man who is a second year student. He was impressed with the school but disappointed that he couldn't get permission for bud wood to graft, no seeds, and only a few plant starts. He did purchase some of the trees there.

Cory was also able to purchase three solar panels for the house. Once they are in place we are hoping to be able to have cheaper electricity and be able to run the computers and other electrics more often. They will need to be put in a metal frame and attached to the roof as we don't what to lose them.
Cory will also have to rewire the house for government power [we hope that with the solar panels we will not need the power company which was off about 4 of the past 12 months]. While Cory was gone a large truck came up by the house to remove some of the lumber from the tree that was cut down. Well the driver forgot to watch the electrical wires going to the house and pulled one of the insulators from the house while the second is hanging on by a thread. The board that they were in has been attacked by termites so it didn't take much to remove it.

Will try to download Cory's photos later this week. He was able to give rides to a few of our Wesleyan pastors. One thing they did was to visit a church member who had a stroke while visiting the DR. He remains in the hospital but is slowly improving. It is likely that had he experienced the stroke in Haiti that he would not be still alive.
