Sept. 24

The last couple days we have had rain on and off. Since Saturday night we have had 5.6 inches of rain. No winds.

Cory drove to Cap Haitian yesterday to check on a visa to the Dominican Republic, pick up the mail, and do some shopping. He doesn't need any paper work from Cap but will complete that at the border. The drive to Limbe which last year took about 15-20 minutes is now 30+ as the roads are deteriorating.

When you only get mail every couple of weeks even junk mail can be interesting. We received a few magazines, a few personally letters and Eli's test results from this summer, along with some junk mail. No big surprises-Eli is very bright but dyslexic like his mom. We are encouraged at how well he is doing in the new curriculum. The results also came with recommendations that we will be looking into; different methods of learning as well as ways of coping or dealing with the dyslexia.

I reminded him that with the great potential that the Lord gave him comes responsibility to use it wisely. "To whom much is given much will be required" Later in the day those same words echoed in my head as I thought of the great gifts I have been given in my children and the big responsibility I have in training them.

I am becoming more comfortable with this 'season' of my life not being a time of medical work but a time of teaching [and enjoying learning with] my children. I am thankful that we can home school. I'm thankful to have the time with them without the many interruptions that we had on LaGonave.

I know that in a few short years my kids will not need as much of my time teaching them and then I can spend more time with the medical ministry. I'm trying not to take any part of this experience for granted.
