Visit to Borgne / O-Boy

No rain for a few days so we headed out to visit the Borgne church.

We were loaded and on our way at 7:30 a.m. Loaded meant 16 people. In the cab were 3 adults and 4 kids and everyone else was in the back of the truck. Despite most of the road being dry there was enough mud that Cory had to stop and put the truck into 4 wheel-drive. We made the 15 mile drive in 1 hour and 35 minutes. Sunday school reports were just finishing up.

At 9:30 the main service started-a special Sunday with many visitors. There was to be a special offering at the end of the service for the rebuilding of the parsonage. There were about 4 special musical groups with special songs. The men's groups each had about 11 members which then split into 3 smaller groups to sing parts acapella. The church also sang 5 or so songs. Accompanying us were 3 eclectic guitars, one keyboard, and one drum set with two men providing additional percussion.

The first normal offering was taken-for the first time since we have been in the North the offering was collected in an American fashion of passing the baskets-but they went from back to front.

The five people who had been baptised before we arrived were presented to the church, prayed over and accepted as full members. As you can see in the picture-people dress up for church in Haiti. Most of the men wore suit coats and ties. Most women have head coverings and wear high heel shoes. All women and girls wear dresses and no men have on shorts. Two people who were saved this week also stood up to be recognized and so the members could pray for them.

The sermon was about Cain and Abel's offerings and how we need to give offerings that please God, not men. How we need to offer part of what God has blessed us with and give sacrificially in faith to thank God.

Following the sermon we had another song from one of the men's groups while the congregation and visitors went up front to place their envelopes containing the offering for the parsonage in baskets on a small table. The service ended with prayer and benediction.
