The team has survived the first full day in Haiti. After breakfast we walked around the compound and they saw firsthand the work that needs to be done. They were surprised at the number of school children-we have pre-school up though high school. The kids were excited not only because of 'blanc' or foreign visitors but it was the last day of school for the week-due to Carnival.
They were overwelmed. Remember there has been little money to maintain the buildings the last 20 years. All the buildings have holes in roofs, need paint, need new window screens......
The team has decided if at all possible the roof on the guest house needs to be replaced. So we hope to get an estimate on the cost today. Getting supplies is being complicated this weekend by Carnival. Cory plans to head to Port-au-Prince early on Wednesday. So please pray that we can get the money [bank needs to be open] and the supplies needed to keep everyone busy until Cory returns from the trip.
The local baker is a member of the clinic/hospital committe and the Port Margot church. Cory and the men stopped in yesterday at the bakery and placed an order for fresh bread to be delivered today. This was on a short trip tp Port Margot to visit the hardware store a
nd market.
Dad and Gene put together a table saw yesterday. Cory had purchased the saw on E-bay and had it shipped to Haiti. The women spent an hour helping Kris sort the medical supplies that were in a large work/storage shed since before we arrived. The materials had spent months in a big pile so the job is dusty and boring. I'm VERY grateful for the help and someone to chat with while sorting.
