Driving in Cap Haitian

At least once or twice a week so far Cory has taken John Pierre into Cap Haitian to shop for supplies. These trips now take place on his car-pool days for school. Three other children who attend Cowman carpool with Eli and Anna. They live 25 minutes from us just past Limbe. We are the furthest family-as far as we know. Down town Cap Haitian is an additional 30 minutes from school. The city near the market [Brown roofs on the right] is crowded with little shops, wheelbarrows full of items and items on the streets for sale. Haitian drivers use their horns frequently due to the congestion as a safety precaution/courtesy. Use of your horn can help clear the way but it can take a while to find passage. Larger trucks are not supposed to be in this area but... Cory is becoming an expert at driving backwards-sometimes several blocks in order to allow a large truck to advance. It takes strong nerves and good driving skills not to hit people, bikes, or items for sale.
Kris is very thankful that Cory has taken on this responsibility. Kris hasn't yet driven in Haiti and while she may drive in the country one day- it is doubtful that she will become a city driver any time soon.

Dear Kris and Cory,
We really like the blog, uncle Jerry checks it daily and we read every word. It makes us feel so much closer to you and what you are doing and dealing with. Keep it up, we even check it on vacation if we have wireless connections or go to a library to check. Prays for you and yours. Aunt Sherry
