Haiti note - Much prayer needed. The past two weeks have seen much escalation of crime and political protests.
Roads are blocked throughout the country, and there is almost no fuel anyway, banks are closed until further notice, even major businesses and charities are being looted and burned. Many people need open roads to get food, water, supplies, in addition to go to work or school.
Our big activities this week included teaching our first health and agriculture class to the university students and Cory's trip to Lusaka to get supplies and pick up our truck.
The class went OK although about 1/2 the students were not present.
Their homework was to suggest health and agricultural topics that they would be interested in us covering.
Getting the timing down is interesting as we need to use an interpreter.
Some of the students do not speak Tonga.
The classes, chapel and devotions are done in both English and Tonga.
We are thankful for the new used truck we are finally able to bring to Jembo. The paperwork took about a month, maybe due to getting a tax exemption.
It is 2008 in very good condition with less than half the miles of similar priced newer trucks we looked at.
Imported from Australia!
Looking OK after the 6 hour drive to Jembo. |
Cory checked 3 plant nurseries in Lusaka and bought from two.
The last one took a long time to find and had less in stock and smaller stock than what is usually listed on their facebook page, probably because rainy season/planting season hasn't started yet.
We are happy to have grapes, passion fruits, dragon fruit, red guava, loquat, peach, Hass avocado, grafted peach, Kent mango, Anna and maybe Pink Lady apple; also pine, eucalyptus and white cedar; strawberry, aloe vera and mint.
Somehow the plums didn't get selected.
We need grafted fruits to provide budwood for propagation.
Jacaranda are in bloom at Jembo school, interesting blue color! This week will include two trips to Immigration offices for paperwork: Livingstone for our work permits and visa and then a trip to Choma for Fritz's visitor visa update.
