Ebenezer Church with school in background |
As our thoughts turn more often toward home [both Michigan and Haiti], we continue to experience new places in Eswatini.
Visit at new church meeting in a school room |
Sunday we joined a new church plant a half hour away in Ezulwini.
What a privilege to join the young congregation for worship and hear the well thought out plan for not only reaching new disciples, but to also teach them to then disciple others.
Monday we traveled through a grey, drizzly day to visit the ministries at Ebenezer near Siteki.
This is the first Wesleyan work in what is now Eswatini, started back in 1910!
No Global Partners missionaries have lived here since the '80's
Due to the rainy day, only some of the 400+ students were at the school.
Clinic |
The small church holds between 30-40 on Sundays, this includes the children.
The medical clinic at this time is the only Wesleyan medical work in the country.
Despite the rainy weather, making roads very muddy for travel, the clinic was busy.
Small rooms bustled with activity as outpatients were checked in, seen, received lab work, and treatment.
A couple of surprises: a pretty well stocked pharmacy storage room and that medical records are completely computerized.
These records are very helpful, especially when patients decide to be seen at other clinics or hospitals-their visits, past testing and treatments notes share valuable information to the most current care giver.
Cory consulted about a few fruit and macadamia trees in the clinic yard.
We learned of dreams: a new clinic building; repair or revision of water supply; renovation of a house so it could be rented to school teachers currently living in town; better use of the fallow prime agricultural land; improved partnerships to enable expansion of ministries.
Macadamias |
Today we do not plan to travel, however tomorrow afternoon we hope to visit a Christian college partly supported by their 14,000 macadamia nut trees.
You may remember Cory planted a couple dozen or so on the mountain at Delice.
Kris will meet today to discuss some ideas for improved care for 5 boys we visited a couple weeks ago.
Easter celebration preparations continue.
This weekend many will come to worship together.
Visitors will stay the weekend with events planned starting on Good Friday.
We will move from the apartment to make room for a few pastors to stay.
So we will start packing for home as we pack up to move for a week and to return to Michigan.
