We experienced heavy April showers and can now enjoy May flowers. The rains in April caused some mud slides, damaged homes in our area, destroyed the peanut crops in the floodplain and many riverside gardens and drowned two children. The local peanut crop sales generally help pay for school fees so this will impact Fauche and other local schools.
Prayer Requests:
- Haitian Government: New Prime Minister approved May 3.
- Eli and Anna at the 50% mark of school. On track to finish before our Home Ministries travel this Fall
- Missionary health and travel safety.
- Creole Health books. Second book translation going slowly.
- Need to set up visits and get tickets for Fall visit to USA
- On May 31, Chris Sloan will be taking the first stage of his medical boards.
Agriculture: Cory visited Village Campion for their second agricultural training day. Because of rain the class size was smaller but they reviewed plant propagation, soil fertility, plant disease prevention and the value of gardening. At the end of the seminar the truck load of fruit trees, bananas and bamboo were distributed. The Moringa Mountain Project expanded its propagation efforts by adding Aloe and false roselle/Florida cranberry. We hope to have plenty of these plants ready for distribution at the campus conferences this summer.
Florida Cranberry: Ornamental, nutritious, good tart flavor. |
Books: Cory is starting to review parts of the second book that Kris, with the help of internet translation, translated into Creole. After May 19th, Andy will have completed his college testing for the term and be available to help us with revisions and content. A few new people recently expressed interest in obtaining copies of the first book.
Travel: Cory plans to visit LaGonave next week to check on the agricultural work, deliver a few things, do some teaching and encourage the workers. This week, weather permitting, we plan to deliver some plants to one of the few churches in the Northern Wesleyan district that we have not yet visited about 1 hour down the road. The heavy rains lately can make travel difficult.
USA Trip: We've started to contact some of the churches that we hope to visit this fall, maybe October/November. Once we hear back from a couple we will look into tickets and start to firm up our plans. Will be looking at driver's education for Eli and likely some oral surgery for Anna.
Serving the Lord with your help,
Cory, Kris, Eli and Anna Thede
