There is now a tropical storm, Gustav heading to Port-au-Prince tomorrow and we are due to land in Port at 4:30 pm. We need to be at the airport in Grand Rapids by 4:30 am. Unless the storm turns or weakens we may be looking at a weather delay tomorrow.
Please pray for Haiti as well as even 4-5 inches of rain can cause flash flooding that can lead to many deaths. It is possible that parts of Haiti could see more than 10-15 inches. This storm is said to be headed directly over LaGonave.
If we do get to Haiti our original plan is to overnight 2 nights in Port so that we can do some shopping on Wednesday and head North early on Thursday. We have also heard that some people were calling for a 3 day protest in Port starting today.
Despite some violence in the South things are reported business as usual in Port. The protests are over the high cost of food.
We will try to keep you updated but once in Haiti will not have Internet for a couple of days.
