Good Friday and Easter

The three local Churches alternate every year for their good Friday service. This year it was Ti Bouck's year to host, the church down the river. We had a full truck from Fauche and arrived about 10 minutes before the 9 am start time. The church had only a handful of people waiting.

In about 5 minutes however you could hear people singing and coming closer. A large truck full of the Port Margot church members had arrived. The service was full of praise songs and short talks on the seven times that Jesus spoke from the cross.

The one that I found the most interesting was when Jesus said He was thirsty. The pastor that had this point told the people that this was not a physical thirst but a thirst for us. That when we follow the Lord, during the bad and good times that He is satisfied. But when we turn from Him, he becomes thirsty for our presence.

Each of the seven points were explained and I think that the pastors did a great job of making it personal for each person. Encouraging us to walk for the Lord, remain faithful, pray for others, witness and avoid temptation.

The service was 2 1/2 hours. They then loaded back into the truck and the 3 other pickups followed back to Fauche/Port Margot. The service would be repeated in the afternoon at Port Margot. We figured that at least 100 people were in the back of the large truck.

The joy of Easter was dampened for me by the evident spiritual needs of this area with the throbbing beat of the drums and passing groups on the road and down by the river celebrating the Lord's death. Going home from the missionary sunrise service we passed a group of 20 or so young men-dressed in colorful outfits, dancing, celebrating the victory that they think Satan had over Jesus. How sad. To be in the prime of your life but on the wrong path. Please pray.
