Love A Child Visit Pictures

Another week and month draw to a close. Cory's trip went well. The paperwork completed but did not received both stickers. Judain, who works in Port will try to pick up the sticker in August for us.

Cory and Genier potted up the chaya, katuk, mulberry, figs, and mombin at Love A Child and filled a good part of their shade house.

Cory was impressed at the small family gardens by the homes.

Now that he knows more at some point he will make a second trip with the trees and plants he feels will do well at their location.

Although dryer than us, more like LaGonave, being located next to a large fresh water lake means that irrigation is possible.

School went well this week for the most part.

 The hot days added to the end of school, past push take an extra effort.

Guest houses cleaned and linens washed.

This week the kid's and I finished reading Rudyard Kipling's 1897 book Captains Courageous.

We noticed that on some DVD's from some other missionaries that a TV movie by the same name so we waited to watch it until after we finished the book.

What a disappointment! Major changes altered the story significantly.

So we advise you to read the book.

We feel the same way about Dickens' Oliver-book is better and tells a whole side story not in the movie.

Dec. 27th

Church on Sunday most people would not of noticed being any different from a normal Sunday-other than the 12 large balloons on a string and nice peach full length curtains over the doors and windows. One smaller balloon, long and skinny popped during service. Very nice to worship and sing on Christmas day with our Haitian family.

The rest of Christmas and yesterday we enjoyed major family time. Good food we normally do not eat like ham, sweet potato casserole, corn casserole and yesterday lasagna, followed by Christmas cookies and fudge.

The boys spent most of yesterday playing each other on the computer building up civilizations while Anna and I watched movies. While watching I worked on my sister-in-laws cross-stitch as well as a prayer card idea for the LaGonave hospital. Today will be similar with a few more 'normal' activities like reviewing French and Cory loading the truck for a plant distribution tomorrow.

What load do you carry that you can leave in 2011?

Winding up the year my thoughts turn both to the past and future. This year mingled great memories with some hard times. What will 2012 hold? How will we change? I received the inspirational book, Life without Limits by Nick Vujicic for Christmas and know that I want to continue to live intentionally and even learn to live more impulsively for the Lord. We received a book from Sonlight, I am reading to the family at lunch called  The 10 Second Rule-Just do the next thing you're reasonably certain Jesus wants you to do by Clare De Graaf.

No one knows how much time one will live on this earth. I want to use my time wisely. I want to make great memories with my family as I encourage them and support them to make an impact for the Lord's Kingdom.

Walk, clinic, learning, reading.

Cooler weather and still limited rain lured us out of the house on Saturday morning for a walk. Cory and the kids went all the way up to our nearest cell tower while I spent some alone time 1/2 way up enjoying the view of the valley and talking to the Lord. [Yes they have better lungs than me]

Today Cory worked on office work while keeping an eye on our students. Clinic crowd moderately busy so I visited with 5 patients and interacted with a few of the student nurses. Today's patient diagnoses included: malaria, scabies, ear channel infection, constipation, very bad teeth, bronchitis, and GI worms.

Three moms received information about dental care, not buying hard candy and pop for their children and good nutrition. The students also learned about breast feeding, introduction of solid food, dangers of putting small cotton applicators in ear channels, WIDAL test for typhoid and more.

Only about 5 folks in the Cholera area. The pastor talked about a school in Haiti that was hit hard with the Cholera [I think it was recent?] with over 150 students hospitalized at one time and 50 died. Very sad.

Eli and Anna continue to learn during and after school hours. Both are looking forward to sharing a Thanksgiving meal with some other kids on Saturday at the radio station as well as visiting LaGonave.

After sharing on our homeschool curriculum forum what Cory shared about 'yeah' I learned that there are a few ways to use this word. Think I'll try to change to YAY-to mean excitement and not just agreement. Words can be tricky to use correctly. Today in French our teacher introduced 10 new verbs to us. Fortunately they all end in 'er' so we will be able to learn the different forms in a group.

Reading older classics one also becomes aware of how the meanings of words change with time. I enjoy the ease of looking up unfamiliar words while I read with the Kindle! We just read H. G. Wells' book the The Time Machine over the weekend. Interesting discussions occurred due to this book. Now we will need to pick our next book.
