A nursery about half way to Livingstone
Time passes whether or not we intentionally take notice.

Since our last blog we've traveled to Livingstone to visit Immigration again.

We may have bought more plants on the trip, stopping at a couple nurseries along the way.

Received a one month extension for Fritz.

Bishop Judain has visited a couple immigration offices on our behalf as well.

LaNina has provided heavier than normal daily rains, limiting outside time.

Our potatoes and sweet potatoes doing well

We've taught a couple classes..how to be a good clinic patient, and pest control.

Continued to plant trees and ornamental plants.

Grafted some of the avocado seedlings.

Fritz and I finished our school unit on India and are now exploring the Middle East.

Tonga classes continue.

The avocado pits planted in the field are starting to sprout.

Some of the avocados are grafted
Some of the students are building a wood pile to cook into charcoal.

Cory warned them he's never seen such a tall pile in Haiti, he thinks the fire will try to break out the top.

The piles in Haiti are shorter and more compact; a big difference is that Zambia does not lack wood for fires or making charcoal.

We received word today that we will be allowed to apply for our 2 year work permits while remaining in Zambia.

At this point Global Partner's missionaries remain unable to travel to Haiti due to continuing security issues so we will continue forward with the plan to work in Zambia.

To get an even better idea of how our messy lives unfold during a day or week:

  • Throw in a bit of unexpected electrical and plumbing repairs
  • Working on life skills
  • Communications - local and international [including complicated process of sending money transfers to Haiti staff]
  • Myself battling a second summer head cold
  • Never knowing when the electricity will be off due to 'load-shedding' [rolling black outs due to limited hydro-power] despite all the rain (last year was dry)
  • Connecting with neighbors and students
  • Down time: reading, gardening, games, Legos, journaling, watching videos

Preparation to make charcoal
Many of the fields are hand weeded. In the bean
field where we planted the 300 avocado
pits, herbicide failed so now late hand weeding.
