June 10th Rays of Hope Visit

Yesterday we visited the Rays of Hope Medical Donation Resource Center in Grand Rapids.

This organization collects donations of medical
supplies [as well as other items] in Grand Rapids. When we visited a few years ago we were allowed to go through a large room of supplies and select what we needed for the LaGonave hospital. We packed up supplies in boxes and Rays of Hope then shipped the items and a staff member picked up the items in Port-au-Prince after they had cleared customs.

Rays of Hope has a reasonable transportation cost which is by the square foot-not by the pound to get the items to Haiti.

This visit we saw first hand how volunteers have made a big improvement by sorting and shelving the medical supplies. Even with this organization we spent a few hours selecting and packing supplies for Haiti.

We left boxes of items for LaGonave which will be shipped to Port. We brought a much smaller box home with us that will be either packed in our suitcases or shipped to Cap Haitian.

While we were doing this the kids were enjoying themselves with Cory's family. We enjoyed supper with Cory's folks and his sister's family. Mical and Moses are adjusting well to life in the USA.
