Sorry for the late blog.
Yesterday we did school and I waited for them to call me to help in clinic but the call didn't come. Found out later that the person who was to call if they were busy got so busy that she forgot.
Today they called early so I worked for a couple of hours, went home for lunch and school and then went back when the labs were on the charts to give the results and write for medications. I saw 10 patients and all most all of them were new.
I did run into a bit of trouble with the last patient. A young man with a fever and GI problems for a couple weeks. His history was positive for alcohol, smoking, drugs and other risky behavior. I reviewed what tests we had available and he and his sister asked about the cost. Now I had heard in 2 different churches that all labs and medication were included in the one time cost as a Christmas present to the community. So I told them this and they agreed to the additional testing. Well....only X amount of lab costs were to be covered with the one time fee. But I got the results from a couple and wrote out some medications. If he isn't feeling better by Monday he will return for his 'free' tests because Dr. Kris had told him he could have them.
Can't have the Christian clinic being accused of false advertising. And if we every do this again I'll bet that the Pastors will be told to announce that 'some of the testing and medications will be included in the fee'.
Cory planted mangoes and avocados that came in early November. Yesterday he and the guys planted Moringa seeds. They also used large year old Moringa trunks or branches to plant a living fence row between the mission and clinic. He also grafted some of the new trees and a couple of Jake fruit.
Kids are working on school. Eli helped shell some pigeon peas that were a gift. The rest we will give away. He still is a bit under the weather with a sore throat.
We also started moving some beds into the 'guest house'. Planning on having some visitors from LaGonave on Saturday.
