Perspective.

I enjoy reading comments about my blog. Thank you who take the time to write. I admit that to an extent I measure the quality of my blogs by the number of comments I receive. Yes, I know in my head that it can also depend on how busy someone may be, who can respond, and if they feel like it. So my perspective may be a bit off.

Rope at Jamestown.
The event which triggered my pondering on perspective occurred on Wednesday. A Salsa d'Haiti airplane crashed during a thunderstorm while attempting to land a the Cap Haitian airport. I prayed for the families of the 2 pilots and 1 passenger who died in the crash. I praised the Lord that 14 more passengers were not on the plane and that the crash site location occurred in a sugar cane field and not a crowded city neighborhood bordering the airport.

Later in the day the realization dawned on me that just last October we flew from Cap Haitian to Port-au-Prince on a Salsa plane. My perspective shifted a bit. Wow-it could of been our family on that plane. Gratitude for all the miles by land, sea and air washed over me as well as for those who pray for our safety.

Some times our perspectives need a bit of cleaning up or focusing. What really matters in life? Am I focused on the important things?  Big events that change our lives we label as pivotal moments. Mine include-becoming a mom, a miscarriage, a evacuation due to political unrest, the 2010 Earthquake, a sister-in-law fighting cancer.

Smaller things also shape my life like water eroding rock over time- my faith, dyslexia, living in Haiti, being married, getting older.

I can rest in the knowledge that the Lord knows i I need a big or small event to improve my life. He orchestrates the focus of my perspective when I let Him and I hope I can willingly let Him.

Thankful: Cargo shipped by sea in August now in Cap.
Pray: Beds / trucks stuck in customs for LaGonave.

Good job on the about page!

Life is about so much more than just our little story, isn't it?

I have been reading your blog since the earhtquate to keep up todate on what is going on in Haiti. Its also a way to keep me current and helps as I teach my Middle School classes about culture and empowerment (I work in a public school) I have also been encouraged by you, a fellow person who deals with the diffifulties of dyslexia - it really is a challange that is a daily struggle - but I thank you for being so open to share that. We may never meet on this earth - but your blogs are great and making a difference even in my classroom in Canada.

Yes it is Susan. Thanks for the encouragement.

Dan-thanks for the introduction. Glad to know how you use the blog to help your students. Dyslexia can be challenging-one of those things I think one needs to decide if it can make you better or bitter. Please let you students know that they can ask questions or suggest blog topics. Nice to get to know you.

Thank you- this year in my Social Studies grade 6 class we will be discussing different cultures around the world - maybe we can come up with a way the students can write questions to your kids about life and other interesting things in Haiti?

I do understand the measuring of blog posts by comments. I try hard not to as well. Always grateful to have some - thank you :)
