First Team Report

It is a warm, 82 degree morning and the team has already been busy looking at the projects and finding the tools needed to work. We all were really tired after yesterday..but were happily welcomed to Fauche by Chris, Kathleen, Bill, Elaine and of course, most important of all, Eli and Anna. After arriving we tried to unpack all of the supplies and get settled in for the night. The humidity was really high! This morning, we have done a few loads of wash and Gene and Larry have set up their shop. They are working on some shelves for the Guest House bedroom they are staying in, since they have no place to put their clothes! When they are finished with the shelving, I will begin to paint. Gerda is busy in the kitchen with the cooks..they were happy to see her. Our first projects include some small storage units for the Guest House, some bunk beds and a bookcase. Then we will be working in the clinic..perhaps remodeling the nurses' station and lots and lots of painting.
We just asked the cooks if they had family in Port. They both had, some of their family members had some slight injuries, but no one had died. They both were praising God for the safety of their families. We talked with Kris last night and they are seeing around 200 patients a day at Petit Goave. They now have five doctors there with some of the first team leaving on Thursday and others coming. Kris has plans to leave with the first team and overnight in Port au Prince on Thursday and catch a ride in a OMS truck on Friday back home. We are all so glad she is coming back..the place here just seems empty without her. We are planning to have "Christmas" with her and the family as soon as she returns. We think Kris will needs some time to recover and chill...so Mom is going to see that she gets that when she returns.
Thanks for all of your prayers for Kris and the family. Eli and Anna's special pet, Rose, died last Friday and that was difficult for the kids. Cory hopes to find a new kitten soon. Keep praying, we have again been reminded of what a really difficult place this is to live..there is just so much sorrow in this country. Carol Ter Avest (Kris' mom)

So glad you are there safely! I shared the blog link on Facebook and now many friends are keeping up with your trip. You're in our thoughts and prayers.

Sydney wants to hear if Anna and Eli like their DS games. ;-)

Gene - Thought you'd like to hear that the Haiti auction raised a record $400,000. You can read the article here; http://bit.ly/aiTvA7

May God Bless the work of your hands!
May God use you to touch their hearts with His love.
I pray that your mourning will be turned into joy.
