2 Sept.

It is quarter to 6 and still over 90 degrees in the house. Both kids are outside playing volleyball with the local kids and the 'big kids' as Chris and Kathleen are affectionately called. I notice that I haven't gotten any comments for the most recent post so will attempt to make this one worthy of replying.

We are getting reports of fall weather in Michigan. Mid-90's doesn't remind me of fall but I did find a nice red leaf on a walk this week. A short walk rapidly wears one down in the heat. So does exercising in the heat mean that you don't have to do it as long to be a be beneficial??

Avocado season has arrived on the compound. Cory and Chris went to harvest some this weekend. It is nice to have fresh fruit easily available and with enough to share with the neighbors. These are older trees already on the compound. Cory has smaller imported trees growing that will hopefully expand the avocado season.

We enjoyed the Star fruit even more when first we use our homegrown Miracle fruit to prepare our tongues. Cory returned from Port with 3 different types of Mangoes and we have had some fresh pineapple. Good but I'd trade some for some fresh Michigan sweet corn.

Looks like Tropical Storm Erika may be heading our way. I just checked the National Hurricane Center site for the 5 day projected path and it is showing her over Haiti late Saturday and Sunday. She may still change her path but bears watching and praying about.

I thought of you yesterday with the mangos, Neil Gaiman's personal assistant (who's blog I liked to from mine) mentioned "A case of MANGOS" works wonders if you're asking me to do anything... although she thought most people wouldn't know anyone who grew them. I thought I know several! :)

Love the leaf colour and the fruit picking basket, we could do with one of those here for the trees are all 30' plus. No dwarfing root stock...

For me, it's Michigan apples. Mangos and papaya are okay, but they are not apples. Of course, as you say sweet corn is wonderful.

We do grow and like mangos in this house. Think Cory tried over 20 kinds in our first couple years here. The fruit picking basket is 'new' for us this year-got it at a friend's moving sale-before it we used a long PVC pipe with a tin can on it.

We like Michigan apples too but.... will be next fall before we will taste one so we try not to think of it much. Cory would agree that papayas are OK but ....well lets just say that I let him eat my share.
