As mom says "Today is a remembering day."
Eleven Years -moved into our first place in Haiti.
Eight Years-watched with the missionary family the terrorist attacks on the USA. We greatly appreciate those who served/serve in military, police, fire or other ministries that have a direct impact on freedom.
Three Years-I left Haiti heading to Michigan for my granddad's funeral. He turned 91 on 9/11/06 and saw the Lord the same day.
Ten Ways Haiti has shaped our lives. No particular order.
- Home school-Doubtful that I would of tackled the huge job of homeschooling had we be in the USA. But it has gone from a painful experience to a great blessing. The kids and I are learning lots with Sonlight and we enjoy our time together.
- Third culture kids-those of us raised 'between' two cultures are special. Global worldview, interesting stories, maybe a bit odd or strange to some but still special in my opinion.
- Lessons learned-spiritual growth and more mature outlook on life. Lots could be said here-Trust more. Pray faster [that is before trying other ways to deal with problems]. Hold things looser. Don't take as many things or people for granted. Have learned to be more flexible... go with plan X,Y or Z. Focus on His priorities not mine, his or hers.
- Tropical garden-Enjoy the fruits.
- Friends: Haitian, teams, other ex-pats, those we've met traveling around the USA, online friends from Sonlight's Forums.
- Places visited/seen. Both in Haiti and traveling around the USA meeting with those on our support team.
- Lives touched.
- Slower Pace of Life. Island Time, adjust or be frustrated.
- Relationship Focus. It really does make a difference when you shift from goals to focusing on people.
- Support Team: We have a GREAT team. The prayer and financial support have be there every time we need it. Thank you Lord.
