I don't know if we were fillers for a speaker who couldn't make it or if they normally fill in the schedule on the same day. But it was a bit shocking to be asked to speak with such short notice, on such a broad topic [HEALTH?!?] and think that we would be taking to a large group of ladies in Creole.
I rapidely returned to school with the kids but we were doing great. We were getting lots done, I though a bit about my speech but noticed we had time. Well not really-my watch had stopped and when I discovered this it was 15 to 3 and Cory was getting ready.
Now this is Haiti and I did question if they had really meant for us to be there at 3 but Cory thought since we were to speak we'd better be on time. So we walked down to the church, only to find a couple of ladies napping on the pews. But we decided to sit and think about what to say. About 3;30 or so we heard singing from the school. Hmmmmm were we in the right place. No one had told us where to met and we had just assumed it would be at the church.
OK-we'd better wander over to the school. Nope they were just a group practicing. Yes the meeting was to be held at the church. Lunch had been late. So we returned to the church to wait. After a bit the ladies started to arrive, sang one quick song and we were up.
I started, major points.
First love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind.
Second love others and make sure you're at peace with everyone.
If you have a problem with someone or should ask forgiveness-do it.
It will be good for your health.
Piratical point-get your blood pressure checked.
Over 30% of Haitians have high blood pressure.
Check it if normal every couple of years. If high follow regularly.
Big way to impact your church, community, and country.
Connect and pray for the youth.
Encourage them to wait until marriage.
Talk about sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy.
Then I introduced Cory.....and the fun began. See next blog
