16th April 09

We have been in Michigan 3 whole days. We have visited with both sets of parents, seen a couple grandparents, Cory's sister, a couple uncles and an aunt. We have also done a bit of shopping and replaced our library cards and picked out new books!

Right before we left Haiti Cory was working in the yard with the guys. They looked up to find a little goat eating the leaves of a avocado tree imported from the Dominican Republic. The goat was caught and a interesting discussion started with the owner.

The mother goat had been tied to the fence outside the compound but the kid wasn't tied up. Word was sent to an official to come and see the damage and OK the punishment. The owner left and the guys went back to work. When no one was looking the goat was liberated.

While the tree was not killed it will take 6 months for it to recover from this set back. With over 100 imported trees on the compound that will become the parent trees for propagation of more trees it is very important that goats and cows be kept away.

Please join us in praying for the protection of the trees. Cory has hired a man to walk the gardens three times a day looking for animals, holes in fences and other problems. We also asked the Pastor and hospital administrators to keep an eye out for animals.

How frustrating! Goats can do a lot of damage. My own goat destroyed my whole garden in one afternoon, of course he left all of the weeds!

Will be praying for protection of the trees.

Goats in Haiti are raised for meat. But they are not controlled enough for fruit trees. Thanks for praying. Keep up the good work.
