Day 34.

Terraces below pond.
Day number 34 for Haiti’s coronavirus restrictions.

About one flight every 7-10 days or so has been allowed to come empty and fly back Americans who wish to go to the USA.

Still no good rain this week, so the guys spent yesterday morning watering trees.

An article yesterday stated that Haiti is one of 10 countries identified by the UN in danger of famine of ‘biblical proportions’.

COVID-19 cases continue to slowly be diagnosed in Haiti.

We hear that various political protests are planned for next week. There are plenty of issues to choose from.

Fritz enjoyed connecting with other Global Partner's kids on Tuesday morning by zoom, as they shared about feelings and some jokes.

Later we enjoyed talking with our member care friends on the phone.

Rock pile at start of the week.

Guys have been busy this week moving rocks and building terraces and retaining walls.

The long rock pile was about 3-4 feet deep so they have worked hard to move so many heavy rocks.

Because of this we added a temporary 4th worker this week.

This location above the solar panels we plan to plant a perennial kitchen garden with things like: chaya, garlic, chives, onions, spinach, oregano, basil, cranberry hibiscus.

Thankfully the soil under the rock pile looks like good dirt for growing although it is rocky.

My small mask project continues.

I’m waiting for some braided ties either from the neighbor kids or the village to complete another 30 masks.
Another small project takes place after sunset.

When we hear them pinging on the tin roof Cory goes out with a flashlight and can of soapy water to catch and drown June beetles.

Tuesday night after a great day of school, Fritzlin was allowed to stay up and help. Around 8:30 they stop flying.

The white grubs these beetles produce are a major pest, damaging the roots of many types of trees and vegetables.

Local lizards and frogs enjoy these treats, also helping to lower the numbers.
