As I would journal mostly in the early afternoons following lunch-some of the days may get a bit muddled. Many things happened in the late afternoons and evenings that I'd then write about the next afternoon-not that it really matters much but if I get mixed up a bit please forgive me.
And no this is not word for word but an edited version.
Tired. I miss my bathroom. Fire ants in tent-Cory to hunt them down. After finding the nest he dealt with them using boiling water. We were thankful for the intervention. Thankfully the fire ants in this area while they hurt they don't cause 3 days of a blistered bite like some in Haiti.
Up early to the front line-announcing that we don't have medications for simple colds, skin problems, antacids, for sleep, and so on. No reason for folks to stand in line for hours when we don't have medications to treat their complaints. Many folks left before 8 a.m. Good-our target patients are children under 6 years of age, serious cases, pregnancies and wound care.
Breakfasts most mornings were bread, peanut butter, bananas and hard boiled eggs. Occasionally hot chocolate for us none coffee drinkers.
Two mothers are in labor, front line done by 11:30 a.m. Helped with pharmacy after front line.
After lunch coached a delivery for 45 minutes-first timer, with lots of swelling. Baby's head is also very swollen and not coming down with good pushes. Finally I call a Caesarean section. So the arrangements are made and she is transported to the local hospital.
Following the C-section the baby and father came back immediately. Mother followed after a few hours so that our staff could follow her and baby through the night. Both did fine and the next day, returned to the hospital for the rest of their post-op care. Apparently the hospital didn't have the staff to watch newborns.
