Sunday visit to Gonaives

Why did we travel to Port-au-Prince on a Sunday? Because we wanted to visit the Gonaives church which is about 3 hours away from us and on the way to Port. Traveling through the mountains in the early morning you often get to see the low clouds still covering the valleys.

We headed out about 6 a.m. Several phone calls were needed to located the Pastor who was waiting to lead us to the church. This is the town that was hit so hard with last years storms. They are still working on the roads and removing mud and debris so getting around town changes from week to week. Last year when we visited on a week day we saw the water stains on the black boards in the church. The flood waters had reached about as high as the bottom of the block windows of the church. Other parts of town had even higher flooding.

While we were late for service we were warmly welcomed and given seats up on the front platform. We enjoyed one song, gave our greetings and then heard a sermon on Martin Luther and the Reformation.

Next Pastor loaded his two boys in the back of the truck while he and his small daughter sat in the back seat of the truck. So 3 adults and a 3 year old in the back seat and our family in the front seat of the truck. Thankfully the Parsonage wasn't to far away!

We were glad to see a Moringa tree growing in the front yard.

After a very good lunch we were on our way again.
