She did poke at my watch and grabbed at the prescription but it was obvious that already in the lower level of malnutrition her life's potential is in danger. We started her in a feeding program, gave her mom a Moringa tree, 6 Moringa seeds and an information sheet. This child is why Cory's work is so important. Gardening classes are set to start in October.
I get to do agriculture related work at least half of the
time, would like to do more but some of the maintenance work
(school, church, clinic and campus housing)doesn't have
local skilled people do do it. Also work teams, visitors and
conferences take some time. I visited a church
member's land a few miles away yesterday, he has a few acres
in the flood plain but there are some avocado trees in the
area and the land seems pretty good. He wants to grow higher
value crops than the sugar cane and corn he is mainly
growing, 9 kids in school so tuition is a struggle. He
really likes gardening, also grows cacao, yam and banana. I
told him I could help with getting seeds and plants to make
a nursery and he wanted to do that. I hope to help more
people start nurseries here since there are very few sources
of good plants. I also plan to have regular gardening
classes. The real progress will come as more people study
the Bible and follow its teaching.. The people here are open
to having Bible teaching included with things like gardening
classes and I do that. Still lots of Voodoo, thievery,
fatalism, and the government isn't doing any extension work
in this area so lack of understanding about soil fertility,
disease, etc. No shortage of topics to teach on. CoryA child next to his 15 month old Moringa Tree. Which now has seed pods.
